The affiliate program is an opportunity for franchisees to generate more orders by leveraging their existing restaurant relationships. The affiliate functionality can be used for restaurants you work with, in 2 different ways. The first is by giving them the ability to add online ordering to their own website via a button they administer. You provide a URL containing an affiliate ID, which the restaurant adds to its own website with a short line of JavaScript. The second is if the restaurant does not have a website. You can setup an affiliate ID, purchase a URL for the restaurant, and forward that URL to the restaurants OrderUp page. The advantage to the restaurant is they now have an online ordering presence that they can offer to their customers that is completely hosted and maintained by you.
In exchange for doing so, the restaurant will in turn pay some other (lower) fee for orders originating from their website as opposed to ones originating from OrderUp.com. The advantage to the franchisee, especially in the first year of operation, is that you are generating orders off of existing restaurants traffic or off of customers who are searching for this restaurant and wanting to place orders to them. So this is a win-win proposition for all stakeholders involved.
Let’s take a look at an example restaurant.
This restaurant started on OrderUp by just doing online ordering through the OrderUp site. They did not have a website of their own, so after a few months we purchased a URL for the restaurant and setup the affiliate program pointing the URL to their OrderUp page. Take a look at the chart below.
You can see their number of orders more than doubled from January to February and in April 2012, they did 126 orders.
As a franchisee, the more touch points that you can have pointing to OrderUp to generate orders, the better. The affiliate program only adds to your marketing efforts and helps jump-start your territory. Not only does it bring in those first time users, but also it helps retain them in the future. Of the users that placed orders through the affiliate program, more than 45% of them have come back and placed orders again from one of our participating restaurants and this is the power of the OrderUp affiliate functionality and program.
